Promotion delight for MMKAC’s women

Marshall Milton Keynes Athletic Club were in great spirits last week and it showed in their latest results.

After hearing news Olympic gold medallist Greg Rutherford was passed fit for the World Championships in Russia, Ian Van Lokven claimed a silver medal at the British Masters M55 10000m Championship at Oxford, finishing in 37m 57.80s with Mick Kelly 41m 05.17s just outside the medals in 4th.

Representing England Devon Byrne had a superb second day at the Home Countries Heptathlon (F23) in Stoke to take the Bronze medal with 4586 points. After day 1 Devon was 7th but pulled up through the field with a 100m Hurdles time of 15.72s, Shot 10.88m, High Jump 1.49m, 200m 27.09s, Long Jump 5.05m, Javelin 35.51m and 800m 2m 23.1s to finish 3rd.

Following on from the success last week of the Club’s Youth Development Team the UK Women’s League Team also secured promotion with equal 2nd place behind Bristol & West and tying with hosts Bedford & County to win the Division 3 title.

A win in the 100m thanks to Joey Duck 12.01s with 2nd by Heidi Nicholas 12.92s gave the team a flying start which improved as Joey won the 200m in 24.29s. Podium places on the Track proved difficult in the top class competition but there were 4th places in the 400m for Nichola Gibson 60.44s and Jasmine Finlay 65.68s and another in the 3000m by Jane Ovington 10m 40.39s.

However the 100m Hurdles proved good with 3rd for Heidi Nicholas 16.01s and 1st for Rachel Gibbens 16.00s while both Relay teams finished 2nd the 4x100m in 50.65s and the 4x400m in 4m 12.30s.

Two 2nd places in the High Jump by the Gibbens sisters with Rachel clearing 1.65m and Sophie 1.45m set the Field events off well and it was better still when Rachel won the Pole Vault with a 3.80m clearance.

The Long Jump produced 3rd for Heidi 5.28m and 2nd for Faye Richold 4.67m while in the Triple Jump it was 4th for Sophie 9.58m and 3rd for Nichola Gibson 9.15m.

Third places in the Shot were taken by Emma Beardmore 10.19m and Rita Twum 8.59m the Hammer producing 2nd by Andrea Jenkins 46.83m and 1st for Emma Beardmore 43.05m and to conclude a great day the pair added a double win in the Discus with Andrea throwing 38.71m and Emma 33.58m.

In Bedford at the Doug Anderson 5k road race Liam Smith was 4th taking 16m 33s while 27th Malcolm Down was 3rd M50 in 18m 43s and at the Blisworth Friday 5k Matt Clarke was 6th in 17m 12s with 10th for Jeremy Vick 17m 22s, 73rd Keith Cook (1st M65) 22m 20s and 155th Milford Callow (M75) 32m 00s.
