Young runners shine in South of England Road Relay Championships in Bedford

MMKAC’s younger female athletes contested the annual South of England Road Relay Championships at Bedford on Saturday.

The under 17 girls were best placed for MKKAC as they came home in in 23rd position.

Emma Mears led them off and with a time of 10.12 - which was the 23rd quickest time of the day) handing over to Holly Jamieson with the team well positioned in 12th place.

Holly ran 11.35 dropping to 18th whilst on the anchor leg Jodie Wright clocked 12.22 as the team closed in 23rd.

The under 13 girls finished 31st with the trio of Daisy Yabsley (11.54).

Ella Saunders (12.08) and on the anchor leg Ella Nash ran 11.38 to haul the team up from 40th to 31st.

Unfortunately the under 15s did not have a complete team.

Gemma Milne ran 11.01 and Charlotte Cooke 12.13.

Geoff New and Kevin Church contested the Great Scottish Half Marathon in Glasgow which attracted over 10,000 runners.

Geoff ran 1:45.07 (2396th) and Kevin 1:49.24 (3104th).

Sophie Gibbens was first lady home in the Ley Hill 10km multi-terrain race with a time of 46.59.

Elsewhere, Jim Lawrence took the silver medal in the M60 category at the WTC hammer throwing competition at Derby scoring 3336pts.
