Blood thirsty Lions out for Riders revenge
ROBERT Youngblood has made a shocking return to Milton Keynes, just in time to try and help Lions beat his old club in what looks set to be another fiery local derby.
Lions visit arch rivals Leicester Riders for a third time this season on Saturday night hoping to pick up some much needed league points and take revenge for their 102-67 BBL Cup thrashing there in October.
Mike New’s men also suffered a BBL Trophy defeat at the John Sandford Centre before going on to beat Leicester in their home tie and book a place in the semi final of the competition. And now with Youngblood back in the black and gold for the first time in just over a year, hopes are high that Lions can make it third time lucky away to their bitter rivals.
And they make the trip to the east Midlands in good form after winning at Mersey Tigers before only narrowly losing out at home to British Basketball League big boys Newcastle Eagles last time out. They top the Championship table with Riders third and with games in hand, but Lions coach New thinks his side can improve on their seventh place with 6ft 7in power forward Youngblood back on board after he quit Leicester just before Christmas.
“You can’t quantify all the little things Robert brings to the table. If we aim to finish in the top four then he is vital to those plans,” said New.
“We have now started to show glimpses of how good we can be, and with ‘Blood in the team we’ll address our lapses in games.”
