Ben takes to MK Marathon like a Fish to water

Ben Fish smashed the MK Marathon record on Bank Holiday Monday.

The Blackburn Harriers runner came home in 2:31.14, more than five minutes clear of James Baker in the men’s race. Paul Adams completed the podium.

Kate Wright was the first woman over the line in 3:03.41, ahead of Lindy-Lee Fisher and Melissah Gibson.

Nearly 2,000 runners took part in the marathon, including plenty from the local running clubs.

Genci Papaj led home the Redway Runners in a time of 2:56.35 - good enough for 23rd.

Jeremy Vick was first across the line for MMKAC in time of 3:08.32, which was good enough for 51st place, while Lakeside Runners were led in by Mark Atkinson, who completed the course in 3:26.50 (165th).

The full 26.2 mile course wasn’t for everyone though, with plenty of races taking place throughout the weekend.

Steve Way won the half marathon in a time of 1:09.53, while Sophie Carter won the women’s race in 1:25.29.

There was also the ever-popular Super Hero Fun Run after the marathon runners had set off, while short distance runners got their chance to compete on Sunday in the Rocket Run.
