Brown leads Lions attack

Macaulay's men top BBL table

Two wins from their opening two games of the new British Basketball League season has seen Marshall Milton Keynes Lions rocket to the top of the championship table in style.

Lions began the weekend's action against Cheshire Jets at the Bletchley Leisure Centre on Friday night, with Yorick Williams' superb three-pointer getting their new campaign off to a flying start.

But it was nip and tuck for much of the first period before the visitors went on an 11-2 run, Terrell Brown the only Lion to trouble the Jets.

The home side kept in touch though as Williams combined with Tommie Eddie to produce some magic and Carl McNally found his range to reduce the deficit to 34-23.

Both teams continued to exchange baskets before Lions slowly tightened their defence, allowing Brown to splash an excellent three and run three different Jets guards ragged.

Lions were now down just 46-43 and a 15-4 run soon gave them the advantage as Brown dished out assist after assist as the Jets failed to cope under a barrage of pressure. By the time half time came Lions led 58-50 and Brown had 29 points.

Mike New, on his way to 16 rebounds, hit the first four points of the second half before Jets recovered with a 16-2 run to bring them back into it.

But Tommie Eddie's three soon halted the run and the Lions would not trail again.

With Lions 78-75 up going into the final quarter, the last few minutes belonged to Eddie as the Lions big man plundered 18 points in the quarter to help Vince Macaulay's men on to a superb 106-92 success.

And Lions continued their outstanding form on Sunday when they came home from London with a 100-83 win.

This time it was Mike New's chance to shine as he led the scoring with 24 points.

Lions were up 55-33 at half time and extended that lead to 75-56 by the third.

Capital simply had no reply to the Lions attack and several Robert Youngblood late three-pointers wrapped up what proved a comfortable win.
