City lose final league game but finish third

Southern Counties North league

Milton Keynes, for so long title contenders in the Southern Counties North this season, completed their league season in third place after their 38-24 home defeat against Windsor on Saturday.

Windsor came into the game in fourth place and their victory left them six points adrift of City, who ended the season six points behind champions Buckingham and five points adrift of runners-up Marlow.

City were already guaranteed third spot before Saturday's game and they were soon behind to a converted try. Windsor added a penalty while City replied with two penalties from Andy White.

The visitors added another try before half time, City's reply being a third penalty from White.

The hosts started the second half strongly with a try from Richard Hill but Windsor hit back with a try and conversion to open up a 10-point lead.

City's Stuart Tomkinson was then sin-binned before White converted his fourth penalty to leave City 24-17 behind.

A massive lack of concentration in the City ranks then allowed Windsor in for two more tries but City did rally with a try from centre Andy Williamson, converted by White.

Saturday sees City away to High Wycombe in the Bucks Cup final and they then travel to Buckingham in the semi-final of the Lewis Shield on Wednesday.

>> Milton Keynes booked their place in the final of the Bucks Cup with a comprehensive 52-5 semi-final win over Buckingham last midweek.

Buckingham, fielded a severely weakened side with their Lewis Cup commitments taking priority.

Buckingham fielded what was basically a second team, City running in five first half tries, two by Stuart Tomkinson and one apiece for Richard Hill, Steve Datchaler and Dan Pearson with Andy White adding four conversions.

City crossed the line three more times in the second half with tries from Wills Hignall, Jake Ronaldson with captain Mike Lambert.
