Graeme Carter’s men made a sensational start to the new campaign after being put in to bat by the visitors.

Opener Mark Nelson crashed 75 from 62 balls, with fellow opener Patrick Sreenivasaprasad scoring 30.

But while captain Carter held up one end on his way to 56, his partners quickly came and went. With just two others getting to double figures, Great Brickhill slumped from 194-6 to 237 all out as Carter eventually fell in the midst of Andy Cummings’ 4-41 wrapping up the tail.

It was a similar story in the second innings too, with Brickhill getting off to a flying start before things began to fall flat.

Two quick wickets from Julian Blackwell had the visitors 12-2 before they found some stability, with Jamie Stead (77) and Asad Rafiq steadying the ship somewhat.

But while wickets fell fairly regularly, the Horspath batsmen were picking up enough runs along the way to put the game into their court.

Blackwell went on to take 5-84 but Horspath would cross the line on 240-8 to take maximum points. Brickhill picked up 13 points for their efforts.

In Division 3, Great Brickhill 2nds (143-4) got off to a great start with a comfortable six wicket win over Oxford Downs 2nds (140).
