Stony Stratford slipped to second from bottom of the Northants Premier Division on Saturday with a disappointing defeat to fellow strugglers Brixworth.
Stony’s torrid season has seen them pick up just one win from their opening 10 games this season, though Saturday’s 62 run loss will sting, especially against a team also battling away at the wrong end of the pile.
Things started positively for Stony though, with Kamran Anwar doing the brunt of the damage, leaving Brixworth on 56-4 at one stage.
But a rescue act from Paul Blakemore (43) and James Lucas (58) helped steady the Brixworth ship.
Peter Caunt added 49 later in the day as Brixworth ended on 228-9, with Anwar taking 4-31 for Stony.
It was a familiar story for Stony when it came to batting though.
Opener Praveen Chandran (30) lost fellow opener James Pickles and number three Vicram Sohal before falling himself for 30, leaving Stony on 44-3 and struggling.
There were starts for Nick Allen (34 not out) and Anwar (30) but with little in the way of support elsewhere, it made for difficult viewing as Stony were reduced for 166 as second change bowler Colin Sibley took 5-27 to clean up the tail end.
The result leaves Stony second from bottom, 10 points above Horton House.
