Stony Stratford took a huge step towards earning Northants League Premier Division safety with a win over Oundle Town.

Alex Strong was the pick of the bowlers for Stony as he took 4-40.

There were starts along the way for Alex Martin (27), Callum Greaves (48) and Richard Cunningham (41 not out) as the visitors ended their knock on 209-7.

Stony’s reply looked on shaky ground though when Bashrat Hussain tore through the top order on his way to figures of 4-41.

But Wesley Fernando (65) and Nick Allen (70) put in a match-saving partnership to put the home side back in control.

The pair fell with the score on 197, but Kamran Anwar and Alex Strong hit the winning runs as Stony (212-6) moved up to eighth in the league with two games in the season remaining.
