While the snow came down outside, it couldn’t hamper Izzy Ferrada as she raced her BMX in the National Series in Manchester last weekend.

As one of the youngest riders in the top female BMX category ‘Championship Women’, Izzy, from Great Linford, had her work cut out as she raced a field full of international riders, but raced to fourth, third and second places in her heats. This put her into the semi-finals, where she rode impressively again to qualify for the final. She was the youngest rider in the field and would face among others, Olympic hero Shanaze Reade.

Success was not to come, however, but she raced strongly to eighth place.

Afterwards, Izzy said ‘I’ve never enjoyed coming last as much as I did today!

“It was great to be up against the best girls in Europe and hopefully the first of many starts against Shanaze.

“I’m looking forward to racing them again!’

In the meantime, Izzy will step up her training and continue practise riding at the MKBMX track at Pineham, where she is a member.
