The threatened inclement weather held off long enough for the annual Hardriders event on Saturday morning with a breezy, but reasonably mild start for the 18 riders starting the course.
The event is part of the North Bucks Road Club’s time trial league: a 20-mile time trial that sees competitors complete two laps of a hilly course.
As expected, the two trips up Church Lane in Bow Brickhill provided a real test for the legs with the gradient reaching 17% before levelling back out. Heading out onto the A5 the riders build up speed before starting the return leg back via Woburn and then Woburn Sands.
A strong ride by Doug Coleman of CC Luton took first place completing the course in 50 minutes and 25 seconds for an average speed of over 38kph.
Richard Wood of TMG Horizon, the current course record holder secured second place with a ride of 51 minutes 08 seconds, and Richard Golding of Equipe Velo took third place with a time of 52 minutes 17 seconds.
The start of British Summertime sees events move to Wednesday evenings, with the next event in the series taking us to the Astwood circuit on the 6th April (a change due to roadworks on the Brogborough course). The event is open to all, including first timers, and begins at 7pm. Full details and results available at http://www.northbucksroadclub.org.uk/
