Disappointing year almost over for Bletchley
South West Two East league
As the curtain gets set to fall on Bletchley Rugby Club's difficult season, the Manor Fields side are hoping to go out with a bang when they face Cheltenham in their last game on April 18.
With the side set to finish in the bottom two, fears about relegation had plagued the side over recent weeks, but with the news that no teams will be demoted this season, Bletchley can now start thinking towards next term.
Unfortunately the boost didn't inspire the first team to a positive result at they went down to a 30-0 defeat at Wallingford on Saturday in their final away game.
From the start the visitors were put on the back foot as the hosts looked for an early blow. And they soon had their first points on the board when Bletchley conceded a penalty.
Their three point lead was soon six thanks to another penalty, and the difference between the sides was evident as Bletchley had their opportunity to get some points on the board but their penalty was missed.
And the Oxfordshire side soon extended their advantage with the first try of the afternoon to take them 11 points clear.
It wasn't all one-way traffic as Bletchley enjoyed a good spell in which they came close to the line on several occasions.
Bletchley seemed destined not to score though and after the break the hosts ran in the killer blow.
And as Bletchley heads started to drop Wallingford added two more converted tries to take the final score out to 30-0.
The club are keen to welcome any new players along to the club as they prepare for next season and are looking to hear from players who think they will have something to add to the side.
