Athletic hope to go out with a bang

This could be the final season in the remarkable history of MK Athletic, but if it is, they look set to go out with a bang.

With just one team, U16s, Athletic are the smallest club in the Milton Keynes & Border Counties League, but that has not prevented the boys from enjoying fantastic success in recent years.

Sat top of the Division One table and needing just a few points from their remaining five games to clinch the title, Athletic’s achievements have caught the eye of many in the local area, including Evo-Stik League Premier Division side Banbury United who want to snap up some of the boys for their youth team.

And with other local clubs also showing an interest, the squad looks set to break up at the end of the campaign, with the prospect of adult football or a higher standard youth league too good to turn down.

But if these do prove to be the final few weeks for them, Athletic will almost certainly have something to celebrate.

Although they were beaten 2-1 by Eldon Celtic in the Berks & Bucks U16 Cup final at the weekend, Athletic still have the league title to play for, as well as a place in the Border Counties League Cup final at stadium:mk later this month, with MK City standing in their way of a memorable day out.
