Newport Pagnell Town suffered late heart-break as AFC Rushden & Diamonds scored in the last minute to secure all three points at Willen Road on Saturday.

The game was Newport’s first game in a month, but it didn’t take them long to find their scoring boots, as Ben Shepherd fired them into an 11th minute lead.

Diamonds fought back though and twice hit the frame of the goal before equalising eight minutes before half time as Russ Dunkly’s header found the net from a corner.

The match looked to be heading towards a draw, but Richard Bunting struck a late blow, bending a free kick into the top corner.

Newport remain 17th in the UCL Premier Division standings, and face Harborough on Saturday.
