News of Daren Dykes’ return to Newport Pagnell Town wasn’t enough to reverse their fortunes on Tuesday night as the Swans went down 3-1 to Wellingborough Town.

Newport’s former leading scorer has returned to the club as assistant manager to Darren Lynch after retiring from the game last season through injury.

The news came a day after Newport lost an 11-goal thriller at Willen Road, going down 8-3 to Deeping Rovers.

After falling behind, Ben Shepherd scored to level things for Newport, before Lukasz Filipiak fired the home side in front from the penalty spot.

But six unanswered goals from the visitors put the game out of reach before Ben Clarke’s consolation.

Ryan Oliver netted a hat-trick for the visitors.

And their poor run of form continued on Tuesday night at the Dog and Duck, where two first half goals from Wellingborough Town left them with an uphill challenge in the second 45.

Wellingborough added a third before Ben Clarke netted Newport’s only goal of the night with 17 minutes remaining, but by then the game was out of reach - their 12th UCL Premier Division defeat of the season. Newport now sit 17th in the table, and take on Peterborough Northern Star on Saturday.

Stony Stratford remain 18th in Spartan Midlands Division One after a 3-1 home defeat to Kentish Town.

Wolverton were 2-0 winners over The 61 FC in Division Two, but Willen went down 5-2 to Totternhoe.

Old Bradwell went out of the Anagram Records Feeder Leagues Trophy to Sporting Hackney 3-1.
