Lukasz Filipak’s last minute goal secured a much-needed win for Newport Pagnell against Peterborough Northern Star on Saturday.
Keen to make up for their opening day defeat, Swans started brightly, and it was Filipak who got the first of his two goals of the afternoon to put Newport ahead.
Josh McAdoo was in fine form between the sticks for Newport, keeping Northern Star at bay as they turned up the heat in search of an equaliser.
The Swans went in to the game searching for their first win in five matches, and doubled the lead on the stroke of half time, as Craig Ralph headed in Scott Mulkern’s cross.
The deficit was halved after 62 minutes when Billy Smith pulled one back for PNS with a well-taken volley over McAdoo.
And the visitors were level nine minutes later Luke Hunnings scrambled a cross over the goal line.
Despite letting a two goal lead slip, Newport refused to let their heads drop, and Filipak was in the right place at the right time to fire in the winner after Ben Clarke’s cross was only palmed away.
The win moved Newport up in to 15th in the UCL Premier Division table, but face a touch task on Saturday, travelling to second place Deeping Rovers.
Stony Stratford were thumped 9-0 by second place side Broxbourne in Spartan Midlands Division One.
New Bradwell St Peter celebrated a 2-1 win over Division Two leaders Kent Athletic to move them to 10th in the table.
Old Bradwell climbed off the foot of the table with a 4-0 win over Brimsdown, while Wolverton and Pitstone shared a 1-1 draw.
