NEWPORT Pagnell Town cruised into the FA Cup first qualifying round with a convincing 6-2 thrashing of Ardley United at Willen Road on Saturday.

Two goals apiece for Matt Broomes, Daren Dykes and Dom Lawless set the Swans up with a trip to Chalfont St Peter on September 8 after they thumped Camberley Town 5-0 in their preliminary round tie.

For the second round running, Darren Lynch’s men scored six against Hellenic League opposition, having already seen off Reading Town 6-1 in the extra preliminary round two weeks earlier.

Broomes got the ball rolling on another big win after 17 minutes, and by the interval the Swans had one foot in the next round after Dykes struck on 35 and 37 minutes.

Stuart Howkins replied for the visitors with a 50th minute penalty, but Broomes scored his second goal of the game after 55 minutes and just 60 seconds later Lawless got his name on the scoresheet for the first time.

Lawless completed the home tally five minutes past the hour, before Howkins scored a second Ardley penalty 10 minutes from time and Newport’s win was marred slightly by the dismissal of defender Dave Baker.

Olney Town enjoyed their first United Counties League Division One victory of the season when they saw off Harrowby United 3-2 after losing on the opening day.

Saturday also saw Stony Stratford Town record another good South Midlands League Division One win, this time 3-2 at home to Chesham United Reserves, while New Bradwell St Peter went down 1-0 at Kentish Town. That’s now three wins from five for Stony, while Peters have just one point from three outings.

In Division Two, Wolverton Town’s match at Risborough Rangers was abandoned due to lightning, with the home side leading 2-1 at the time.
