College boys march on to National Cup quarter finals
THE Milton Keynes College football team have booked their place in the quarter finals of the English Schools National Cup with a dramatic 4-3 extra time victory over Lincoln College on Friday.
Having already made history by reaching the last 16 of the competition for the first time, MK College took on their Lincoln counterparts in Dunstable because of a waterlogged pitch at Woughton on the Green.
Despite controlling much of the first half, MK fell behind just past the half hour mark, but responded well and drew level just after the break courtesy of an Alex Dixon penalty.
Lincoln scored on the break to make it 2-1, before Dixon doubled his tally when he did well to control a cross from Leigh Stevens and fired home.
MK went in front for the first time when Dixon reacted quickest to complete his hat-trick, firing home from close range after Stevens’ shot was saved by the Lincoln keeper. However, with only a couple of minutes left to play, Lincoln drew level with a goal straight from a corner.
That took the game into extra time, and after watching some good chances go begging, penalties looked to be on the cards. But with the clock running down, substitute Jake Seeley scored the winner to send MK into Monday’s quarter final draw.
Right-back Jack Crow was named man of the match.
MK had previously beaten Peterborough Regional College, Regent College in Leicester and Hull College to reach the fifth round, having received a bye in the first round. A total of 256 teams first entered the competition back in August.
