Cup dream over for MK College boys

THE Schools National Cup adventure is over for Milton Keynes College’s football team after they suffered a 4-1 extra time defeat to Hartpury College on Wednesday.

A total of 256 teams first entered the competition back in August and the city side did exceptionally well to reach the quarter final stage where they eventually lost to their rivals from Gloucestershire, conceding three goals during the extra 30 minutes after a 1-1 draw at Woughton on the Green.

Influential striker Alex Dixon was at the heart of most of the chances MK created, twice going close to opening the scoring in a goalless first half before another near miss just after the break.

Dixon scored a hat-trick in the team’s fifth round win over Lincoln College, but after he missed the target on a number of occasions, the visitors broke the deadlock midway through the second half.

Dixon finally found the back of the net late on to take the match into extra time, but a couple of mistakes at the back cost MK as Hartpury booked a semi final place – the end result rather flattering the away side.

MK’s quarter final defeat comes four weeks on from beating Lincoln College 4-3 after extra time in the fifth round. They had previously seen off Peterborough Regional College, Regent College, Leicester and Hull College after a bye in the first round.
