Good weather for ducks, but not the Swans...

NEWPORT Pagnell Town will play their first home game in a month on Saturday, and chairman Geoff Cardno admits the break has put the club under financial pressure.

Weather permitting, the Swans will host United Counties League Premier Division title favourites Spalding United at Willen Road – four days after winning what was their first match anywhere since January 12.

Second half goals from Danny Watson, Richard Armstrong and Steve Brookes gave Darren Lynch’s men a 3-0 win at Kempston Rovers, lifting them up to seventh place in the table.

But the Swans have only played one home game – a 5-1 thrashing of Blackstones – in the last two months, and have only run out twice at Willen Road since they welcomed Enfield 1893 to town for an FA Vase second round clash on November 17.

Cardno said this winter’s postponements have hit the club worse than normal, with first heavy rain and then the snow making play impossible for long periods.

“The cash flow has been dire,” said the Newport chairman. “We’ve got expenses that don’t go away if we’re not playing, so hopefully Saturday’s game will be on.

“I just hope it doesn’t rain much more.”
