MK College football team in last 16 of National Cup
MILTON Keynes College’s football team has made history by reaching the last 16 of the English Schools National Cup competition for the first time.
The team, made up of players released by professional clubs in the region, beat Peterborough Regional College 4-3 away from home to set up a fifth round tie against Lincoln College at Woughton on the Green next Friday.
They had previously won away at Regent College in Leicester and Hull College, having received a bye in the first round. A total of 256 teams first entered the competition back in August.
Not only are the MK team sat joint top of the British Colleges League table, but it’s also the furthest the city college has been in the cup competition, with goals from Alex Dixon (2), Jordan MacInerney and Moses Olanrewaju helping them to victory over Peterborough.
The team is made up of players aged between 16 and 19, studying a sports science course at MK College, worth the equivalent of three A-Levels. The course currently caters for 38 students but more potential players are being invited to get in touch.
