Record breaking Swans dreaming of Wembley final

NEWPORT Pagnell Town are counting down the days until the club’s biggest ever match on Saturday, and dreams of a Wembley final are still very much alive.

The Swans entertain Ashington at Willen Road in an FA Vase fourth round tie, with a place in the last 16 of the competition up for grabs. And having already navigated their way through three rounds, Darren Lynch’s men have already made club history, having never been past round three before.

Now they want to break another record by welcoming as many fans as possible through the gates, and with a healthy number set to make the trip down from Northumberland, the Swans want all the support they can get.

Chairman Geoff Cardno said: “This is our most important match ever and it would be great to see more than 500 fans get down and support the team.

“We have done ever so well to get to this stage but we’re certainly not ready to stop yet. You have to have confidence in yourself and if the players can produce their best I really think we can go all the way.”

Ashington ply their trade in the Northern League – in the same division as Whitley Bay who have won the Vase for an unprecedented three years in a row. However, the Swans also play at step five of the non-League pyramid and will go into the game as slight favourites to progress – but there’s not much in it.

They also go into the game in decent form having easily beaten Irchester United 3-0 in their latest United Counties League game on Saturday – Lewis Wilson netting a hat-trick.

Ashington travel south on Friday night and will be well prepared for the game, so football fans of Milton Keynes are encouraged to get down to Willen Road and cheer on their local side – now just four more wins from a trip to Wembley.
