Round-up: Five-star Swans back with big win

NEWPORT Pagnell Town’s long wait for a United Counties League Premier Division game came to an emphatic end when they thumped Blackstones 5-1 on Saturday.

The Swans’ Willen Road victory came in their first game for almost a month due to first frozen and then waterlogged pitches across the region.

A total of five first-team games were lost because of the weather conditions, making for a fixture nightmare in the weeks ahead.

Darren Lynch’s men, sat seventh in the Premier Division table, visit fourth placed Deeping Rangers this Saturday, but they’ll have to get used to midweek matches for several weeks to come.

Goals from Farmer (2), Dykes, Welch and Cunniff completed a league double against Blackstones, and with between one and six games in hand on the sides currently above them, the Swans will be targeting a decent rise up the table in 2013.

Ed Wheatley got off to a winning start as manager of Olney Town as the UCL Division One strugglers won 2-1 at Potton United on Tuesday night.

A Whittle brace helped the Nurserymen come from a goal behind to snatch victory in their first game since Neil Griffiths quit as boss for personal reasons. He has since taken over at Buckingham Town, but Olney move on to a tough trip to Oadby Town on Saturday.

There were Berks & Bucks Intermediate Cup defeats for both Stony Stratford and New Bradwell St Peter, losing to Grendon Rangers and Aston Clinton respectively in fourth round ties.

Meanwhile Old Bradwell United earned a 2-1 win at Totternhoe in South Midlands League Division Two, but Wolverton Town were beaten 2-1 at home by Risborough.

Tuesday night then brought a 4-0 away win for Stony at New Bradwell in Division One, lifting James Cain’s men to 11th place in the table. They have plenty of games in hand on the sides above them, but face a difficult test at Cockfosters on Saturday.

Elsewhere New Bradwell host Winslow United, Old Bradwell welcome Hale Leys United and Wolverton visit Aston Clinton.
