Swans hit by postponed fixtures

NEWPORT Pagnell Town should return to United Counties League Premier Division action this Saturday after their last two games were postponed.

The Swans host Boston at Willen Road a week after their fixture with high-flying Quorn was called off due to a frozen pitch at Sutton Park.

Darren Lynch’s men were then due to visit title chasing St Ives on Tuesday, but that match was also postponed because of a waterlogged pitch at their Westwood Road ground.

The two-week break from action may have come at a good time for the Swans who suffered a surprise 3-1 defeat at home to Cogenhoe United in their last outing on December 8.

They go into Saturday’s home clash against struggling Boston sat in eighth place in the UCL Premier Division table. Weather permitting, that will be the first of three games in a seven-day period for the Swans, who travel to AFC Kempston Rovers on Boxing Day before going to Desborough Town three days later.

Olney Town suffered a 2-0 defeat away to UCL Division One leaders Northampton Sileby Rangers on Saturday, seeing them drop to 10th place.

The Nurserymen host Bourne Town this weekend, then travel to Northampton ON Chenecks on Boxing Day, and complete a busy week at Thrapston Town next Saturday.

New Bradwell St Peter will go into the Christmas period still looking for their first win of the South Midlands League Division One season following Saturday’s 3-1 home defeat to Kings Langley.

With just a single point from 20 games, Peters are stranded at the bottom of the table, and face another difficult test this Saturday when Stony Stratford Town visit.

Stony were 2-1 winners at Wodson Park last time out, seeing them sitting nicely in mid-table, with games in hand on most of the sides above them.

In SML Division Two, Old Bradwell beat Aylesbury Reserves 1-0, while Wolverton Town’s game with Tring Corinthians was postponed.
