WOLVERTON Town FC have ambitious plans to become the best amateur club in the city – and are hoping their new home ground at Greenleys will help them do just that.

Wolves have agreed a deal with the Parks Trust to lease the grounds at Field Lane – the former home of Milton Keynes Rugby Club who left for Emerson Valley earlier this year. The facilities will be renamed ‘The New Park’ after the club’s previous home of Wolverton Park.

The clubhouse at Field Lane will be redeveloped to host social events and will be available for a range of sporting activities, but it’s on the field that the North Bucks League Premier Division outfit are hoping to improve most as they target a place in the South Midlands League at the start of the 2012/13 season.

Wycombe Wanderers had agreed to visit for a friendly against Wolves, but with the formalities of contracts still to be signed and safety works to be completed, the game against the League 1 side had to be postponed.

But Wolverton chairman Steve Greenwood has a more long-term ambition for the club, and believes that by staying close to their routes, they can build a strong club which will flourish in its new surroundings.

He said: “This venture has been a long time in planning and without the support of a dedicated team of volunteers, who have given their time and expertise free of charge, we wouldn’t be here today having secured the future of the club.

“We’re a much more professional club now and the aim is to become the best amateur team in the area and hopefully get Wolverton Town FC back on the football map.”
