MacDonald books Olney a spot in the last 16

The 1-0 win, courtesy of Rob MacDonald’s goal on the stroke of half time, sent them into the next round.

But it could have been a bigger margin of victory had Olney not come across an inspired Ryan Thrussell in the Buckingham net, denying the visitors with four outstanding saves in the first half before MacDonald finally beat him.

The home side, playing at Manor Fields in Bletchley, were much improved in the second half, but Thrussell remained the busier of the two keepers, making another two excellent saves to deny the Nurserymen from extending their lead.

Buckingham weren’t without their chances though, as Leon Lobjoit almost forced a replay in the closing stages, but saw his audacious chip hit the crossbar.

Olney take on Eynesbury Rovers away on Saturday.
