Despite barely being called on to make a save in games against Fleetwood, Bury, Oxford and Oldham, Dons have seen their form take a turn for the worse as they dropped to 16th in the table, picking up just four points from a possible 12.At the Kassam Stadium against Oxford, the U's scored an 88th minute winner, but Martin denied the home side a second goal when he kept out Chris Maguire's stoppage time penalty kick.

Championship ambitions for keeper David Martin

"As a keeper, you want to be making saves and be a part of the game, but I'm much happier to be keeping clean sheets," he said. "You can't have it both ways. I was busier against Oxford, the surface was tough and we couldn't stick to our game plan.

"If I'm making saves, it's usually because we're not playing well. It's more important for the team for me to be kept quiet because it shows we're playing well.

"We've defended pretty well, but we've just lost concentration, or someone hasn't been aggressive enough - it's the small details. I wish the Oxford penalty save had meant something, earning a point, or keeping three. But that's just the way it goes sometimes."

Since Robbie Neilson's arrival at Stadium MK back in December, Dons have shored up at the back. In their last six matches, the back line have let slip just three goals, picking up nine points from a possible 18.

The keeper though says the players are still finding their feet under the new manager.

Martin added: "When the gaffer first came in, everyone was finding their feet, trying to work out what's expected of them.

"We have looked a lot more secure, and in the first month or so. I didn't have a lot to do in games, we are getting beaten by scrappy goals here and there."
