Defeat to leaders 'shows where Dons should be'

Karl Robinson believes his side's performance in the 2-1 defeat to Scunthorpe shows Dons should be higher up the League 1 table.

Graham Alexander's side haven't lost at home since December but had to come from behind to beat Dons after Kieran Agard opened the scoring in the 37th minute.

But two Paddy Madden goals, who came off the bench, won it for Scunthorpe sending Dons down to 16th in League 1.

After a gritty and battling display though, Robinson, who has come under criticism from Dons fans in recent weeks, feel his side showed 16th isn't a fair reflection of his side's performance this season.

"Our performances have deserved more, but we're a results-driven business," he said afterwards. "There are so many things we can point our fingers at but we've got to turn it around.

"I can't argue with the fans because the results haven't been right. But we've lost 2-1 to the league leaders, and it shows where we should be. When we perform like this against the leaders, it shows where we should be. We need to turn it around.

"We didn't deserve to lose again. We've come here to a team at the top of the league and should have got more from it. They've scored two breakaway goals.

"But I don't think we deserved to win today. That was two very good teams who deserve to be at the top of the league. It was a full-blooded affair.

"It was gritty and entertaining, but we're disappointed. There will be lots of criticism and we have to ride it and make sure we get right for Tuesday.

"I've had some teams that would have crumbled here today. We're struggling to get the results our performances deserve. The lads are devastated, and you can see how much they want it. But we've fallen short again. There are a lot of disappointing factors and so many frustrating things. "

Despite some fans calling for his head though, Robinson insisted he was still the right man for the job.

He said: "It affects me, of course it does. It rips me to shreds. I know everything we're doing is right and I'll stick with it. As much as the fans won't accept what I'm saying, I'll stick by this club through thick and thin.

"If I put the club in this position, where our performances are great but the results aren't right, I will dig deeper than ever to put it right.

"And there is no-one better to put it right than the group we have here. We want to do the club proud, and so far the results haven't done that."
