Derek Riordan training with Dons as Robbo continues to look at forward options

FORMER Celtic and Hibernian striker Derek Riordan is currently training with MK Dons in the Republic of Ireland, the Citizen understands.

The 29-year-old last played for St. Johnstone in the Scottish Premier League last season after a short spell with Chinese Super League club Shaanxi Chan-Ba, but is best known for his excellent goal-scoring record at Hibs – netting 54 times in 123 appearances with the Easter Road side.

Riordan played a handful of times for Scotland and was sold to Celtic in 2006, but failed to make much of an impression in Glasgow and returned to Hibernian in 2008, scoring a further 36 goals in just over 100 games before leaving on a free and moving to China last summer.

After not being offered a deal by St. Johnstone at the end of last season, Riordan was rumoured to have had a trial with a club in Spain, but has now been invited to join Dons on their trip to Dublin.

Spanish striker Juanfri is also on trial with Karl Robinson’s men. Last spotted at Malaga, the 22-year-old was tipped for big things when he made his first team debut aged 16 before signing for the La Liga side in 2009. In their B squad, he scored 40 goals in 96 appearances, but only played a handful of times for the first team.

Meanwhile Deon Burton – who trained with the squad at Woughton-on-the-Green last week – is also in Dublin and could feature in Dons’ two friendly games against local sides next week.
