Dons beat loan deadline to sign Chelsea striker

MK DONS have announced the signing of young Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford on an emergency loan deal until early January.

The 19-year-old joins Dons minutes before close of the loan deadline and he will link up with his new team-mates tomorrow ahead of the League 1 fixture with Colchester United on Saturday.

Bamford, who has two England U19 caps, will be eligible for the games against Brentford, Hartlepool United, Doncaster Rovers, Walsall, Coventry City, Notts County and finally Yeovil Town.

The Blues have also given permission for the forward to play in the FA Cup second round tie against AFC Wimbledon next weekend.

After coming through the academy set-up at Nottingham Forest, Bamford made his professional debut in December 2011, coming on as a substitute against Cardiff City.

The highly-rated youngster scored five times in a FA Youth Cup clash with Wigan Athletic in early 2011/12 before netting a hat-trick against Chelsea, who he later joined for a reported £1.5 million.

Putting pen to paper on a five-year-deal in January of this year, Bamford has yet to make an appearance for the UEFA Champions League cup holders  but has featured regularly for the Chelsea U21 side.

Netting six goals in seven U21 fixtures last campaign, the 6ft 1in forward has five goals to his name already this season and will no doubt add firepower to Karl Robinson’s strike force during a tough winter period.
