Like against Everton last Tuesday, Dons were behind early in the game, this time a minute in when Matt Godden beat Charlie Burns to put Stevenage 1-0 up.

Stevenage came close twice to doubling their lead before Ed Upson rocketed Dons level with a sensational 25-yard strike into the top corner after 20 minutes.

It was as close as Dons would come though as Stevenage retook the lead seven monutes before half time, when Godden turned provider for Jake Hyde to put the home side ahead again.

Dons continued to squander chances, with both Nicky Maynard and then Upson missing second half opportunities before Godden netted his second of the afternoon from close range.

And with 19 minutes to go, Tom Conlon’s fine free kick made it 4-1 to the hosts.

Dons season kicks off on Saturday as they travel to Greenhaus Meadow to take on Shrewsbury.
