It was back to business after the summer break for MK Dons as they returned to pre-season training this week.
Dean Bowditch was the only absentee from the season’s first outdoor training session, as the players were put through their paces by fitness coach Damien Doyle.
While Dean Lewington, Adam Chicksen and Ian McLoughlin’s contracts remain if not unsigned, certainly unannounced, the trio were all included in the fitness regime, as was Gary MacKenzie, who is still on Blackpool’s radar for next season.
While there were no new faces amongst the players, there was one on the sidelines as former Wycombe Wanderers boss Gary Waddock cast his eyes over the squad after taking up position as Head of Coaching.
Ryan Lowe and Mathias Doumbe have been the only two players out the stadium:mk door so far this summer, with no sign of any bids coming in for the sought-after Irish pair of Shaun Williams and Stephen Gleeson yet.
Another noticeable absentee from training was Ian Wright. After accepting a role on Dons’ coaching staff 12 months ago, Wright will no longer be a regular at Woughton on the Green, citing his other media commitments as his reason for leaving. He will though be back sporadically to lend a hand.
While the players will be blowing the cobwebs off their tired legs for the next few weeks, their preparation between now and their first fixture on Saturday August 3 against Shrewsbury will be key to their aspirations of finally landing promotion.
