IT’S been just over seven weeks since MK Dons’ 2011/12 campaign came to an end, but with the players preparing to return for the start of pre-season training next week, the club remains one of only three in League 1 not to have announced any new signings.
Dons’ wafer-thin first team squad will report for testing on Monday before taking their first full training session back from their summer break on Tuesday. Their first scheduled pre-season friendly at Ampthill Town comes a week later on July 17, followed by a trip to the Republic of Ireland.
And starting slightly later than some of their third-tier rivals because of their exploits in the play-offs, Dons have so far not confirmed any new additions to their squad, with Portsmouth – who have been unable to sign players while in administration – and Sheffield United the only other League 1 clubs not to have announced any new permanent deals.
The Blades, who lost to Huddersfield in the play-off final, had hoped to snap up Rangers striker John Fleck this week, but he has opted for a move to newly relegated Coventry City instead. However, they are expected to sign Czech defender Milan Misun.
Dons chairman Pete Winkelman recently hinted that transfer news could come in the week that the team begin training, with manager Karl Robinson now back from his holiday, but as yet even the rumour mill is in slow motion.
Assistant manager Mick Harford has also given little away in Robinson’s absence, while new first team coach Ian Wright is currently in the USA. There has also been no update on the situation regarding Alan Smith who was offered a contract at stadium:mk back in May after his loan spell last season.
