IT WAS an ‘almost perfect’ performance according to Karl Robinson as he watched his Dons side beat Tranmere Rovers 2-0 at Prenton Park to move up to third in League 1.

After missing out on the November Player of the Month award, Jabo Ibehre got on the end of a 19th minute cross to head Dons into the lead. And Shaun Williams rounded Rovers keeper Paul Rachubka on the hour to doulbe the lead to wrap up the comfortable win.

There was one minor bump in the road for Dons though – a Jose Baxter free-kick came back off the bar and the follow-up was blazed over by Enoch Showunmi, but the visitors were always in control.

“We got beat here last season in a convincing way, but that performance was almost perfect,” said Robinson afterwards. “Other than their chance from Showunmi, we had the edge and we looked aggressive. We looked strong and we looked like we cared, and we had a touch of arrogance and class when we wanted to pas the ball. It was almost a perfect performance.

“Tranmere make it very difficult for teams at Prenton Park, but I’ve never heard a Tranmere crowd this quiet before, and that shows the quality of the performance that the boys put in.

“We felt we could get at them early on because they found it hard to match our competitiveness. A lot of big teams have come here and found it difficult and Tranmere could have got points out of the games with disallowed goals in some of them, but they were never in touch with us.”

Robinson was delighted to have added another clean sheet, their 10th of the season, as well as another two goals to their tally which now stands at 62 in all competitions.

And the manager singled out Ibehre’s goal – a move that encompassed six quick passes in the build-up – as one of the best team moves he has seen all season.

He said: “That first goal is as good as you’re going to see – I say it every week but I’ve not seen us score a bad goal this season.

“I’m not getting carried away but it’s a great performance here.”

Dons kick off later than their League 1 opponents next week as they take on Preston North End at stadium:mk in front of the Sky TV cameras. Kick off is at 5.20pm.
