EFL to investigate AFC Wimbledon following Dons clash

The Football League will look into AFC Wimbledon's conduct with regards to MK Dons in their match on Friday night.

After the first meeting of the two clubs in March, AFC failed to make mention of the 'Dons' part of MK Dons' name, didn't use any pictures of the team or badge in their matchday programme - simply referring to them as the team from Milton Keynes - and only referred to them as MK on the scoreboard.

Prior to the game on Friday, which MK Dons won 2-0, the EFL sought assurances that Robbie Neilson's side would be treated as any other visiting the Cherry Red Records Stadium. However, the same issues were evident as in the first meeting.

There were also reports that MK Dons fans had things thrown at their buses and indeed at them as they tried to enter the stadium last night.

After the first clash, the EFL were notified of the issues and were made aware of them again following last night's game, and 'will request the observations of AFC Wimbledon at the earliest possible opportunity.'

If the club is charged with a breach of EFL regulations then the matter would be referred to a Disciplinary Commission.

A statement from AFC read: "Fans will have seen that the EFL has asked for our comments about aspects of Friday's game at the Cherry Red Records Stadium.

"We will be responding to the League in due course and until then we will make no further comment."
