Fans roar Dons to monster win

editorial image

KARL Robinson recently said he had created a monster by talking up his side’s chances of automatic promotion before the season had kicked-off. Well, that monster might have finally broken free of the shackles.

Cheered on by the stadium:mk faithful, Dons looked every bit the League 1 title challengers the Dons boss had been talking about. And although they had to rely on a late Shaun Williams penalty to edge past Sheffield United, they now have a victory under their belt that truly justifies their promotion credentials, and the makings of a run of form that will soon see them occupy a more befitting league position.

Williams’ coolly taken spot-kick was met by an enormous roar of approval – not just for the win itself, but for what Robinson has been talking about all along. Three wins in a row has got the fans believing again, and it won’t be long before there are more than 8,000 of them enjoying the fun.

Sheffield United were poor – so poor in fact that it’s hard to understand how they had managed to remain unbeaten in 90 minutes since their last trip to Milton Keynes in April. But that takes nothing away from Dons’ performance.

Robinson’s men were confident and capable in possession, as ever, and never gave up the fight to clinch all three points, even when they looked to have run out of time.

The Dons boss has been frustrated by what he has perceived to be unfair criticism of his side so far this season, from the fans and the media, and made sure to let people know about it after the win.

Whether any criticism from the fans, the media, or the manager in the opposite direction, has been deserved or not, the fact is that Dons now sit seventh in League 1, and just three points from the top two places we all want them to reach.
