JABO Ibehre has taken to Twitter to announce that he is to leave MK Dons and join Colchester United.

The popular striker has spent most of the season on loan at Colchester after finding first team opportunities at stadium:mk limited.

During his successful spell at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, the 29-year-old scored four goals in 14 appearances for manager Joe Dunne.

But with the arrival of Izale McLeod to bolster Karl Robinson’s Dons strike force, Ibehre was allowed to leave the club on Tuesday evening and has signed permanently for Colchester.

Announcing his departure on Twitter, Ibehre wrote: “I would like to say it has been a pleasure and privilege to have played and worked with some exceptional people here at MK Dons.

“I’ve had proud moments and thoroughly enjoyable times. I would like to say a big thank you to you the fans for your magnificent support and encouragement all the way.”

Since signing from Leyton Orient in summer 2009, Ibehre scored 14 goals in 94 league appearances for Dons, and follows Charlie MacDonald, who moved to Leyton Orient, and Jay O’Shea, who completed his transfer to League 2 side Chesterfield, out of stadium:mk in the January transfer window.

A Dons statement read: “MK Dons can this afternoon confirm that striker Jabo Ibehre has completed a permanent move to Colchester United.

“Everyone at the club would like to thank Jabo for all his efforts during his time at MK1 and wish him all the best for the future.”
