Jay O’Shea’s contract cancelled by mutual consent

JAY O’Shea has agreed to cancel his contract with MK Dons and has joined League 2 side Chesterfield on a free transfer.

The 24-year-old winger recently completed a loan spell with the Spireites and has subsequently signed a deal to keep him with the Derbyshire side until June 2014 following the cancellation of his contract at stadium:mk by mutual consent.

O’Shea featured 52 times for Dons during his 18-month stay in Milton Keynes, netting eight times in the process.

The former Birmingham City trainee made his debut for the club against Hartlepool United on the opening day of last season and played a part in all of Dons’ first seven fixtures before picking up an injury which kept him out of action until November.

After scoring on his return to the side against Nantwich Town in the FA Cup, O’Shea went on to make a further 27 appearances last season, with highlights including scoring important equalisers in the 1-1 draws at Hartlepool and Chesterfield.

O’Shea also played a role in the FA Cup third round tie away at Premier League QPR, as well as featuring in both legs of the League 1 play-off semi-final defeat to Huddersfield.

He featured 17 times for Dons this season, scoring against Cambridge City in what proved to be his final outing for the club.
