Karl Robinson paid tribute to Alan Smith and Izale McLeod as they left MK Dons last week.
McLeod is Dons’ all-time leading scorer, while Smith’s decision to drop from the Premier League to League 1 in January 2012 made national headlines.
Robinson admitted Smith had been offered a role in his coaching staff, and wished the pair all the best in the future.
“Smithy was offered a job on the coaching side,” he said. “It wasn’t a decision that we’re angry about. It’s sad to see him go, but it’s the nature of the industry.
“Izale has been wonderful since he has been here. He’s an unbelievable guy, and when he got in the side at the end of the season, he didn’t let anybody down.
“We wish both luck with whatever they do next.”
