The 21-year-old made five appearances for Karl Robinson’s side in the Championship, with a highlight being his stunning clean sheet at Hillsborough during the 0-0 draw with Sheffield Wednesday.

Burns’ contract was due to expire in June, but the club has exercised their option to retain the keeper for another 12 months.

“I’m delighted and proud to get another year with the Dons,” said Burns.

“When I was in the Academy, I would watch the first-team week in, week out and it was my dream to be out there playing as well – I’m pleased that I get to stay a part of the squad for another season.”

“I know I’m going to have to remain patient and wait for my opportunity to impress. I’m still young and I’m still developing, so I’ll be looking to continue learning each and every day in training and in matches.”
