One Smith in, one Smith out for Dons

NEWS of Alan Smith signing for Dons had barely sunk in before Adam Smith was recalled to Tottenham on Monday night.

The England U21 international, who was due to stay on loan at stadium:mk until the end of the season, has returned to White Hart Lane with immediate effect, fuelling rumours that a permanent move to Championship side Leeds United may be on the cards.

In his time with Dons, Smith was a regular at right back, starting 17 games, but will be best remembered for scoring two unbelievable strikes against Rochdale and Leyton Orient.

Dons boss Karl Robinson said: “It is extremely disappointing to lose someone of Adam Smith’s quality, he has made a great contribution to the club this season, but unfortunately he is not our asset.

“I feel let down and disappointed by the late notice, but our hands are tied in this situation.

“Adam Smith arrived at stadiummk as a good player and I truly believe myself, John, the staff and the players can take great pride knowing he leaves as a great player and a stronger character.”

Dons now face something of a defensive crisis ahead of tonight’s League 1 clash against Sheffield Wednesday, with only three recognised defenders at the club.

Mathias Doumbe is suspended for the game, while Adam Chicksen is on loan at Leyton Orient and Shaun Williams has been hampered by injury of late, meaning Gary MacKenzie, Dean Lewington and Tom Flanagan are the only defenders available for the crucial fifth versus fourth clash.

The January transfer window closes at 11pm tonight, with Alan Smith as yet the only Dons signing.
