NO DEALS are done yet, but Karl Robinson insists that MK Dons will be making quality signings this summer.
Dons are one of just six League 1 clubs – two of which have been operating under transfer embargoes – not to have announced any new incoming transfers since the end of last season.
But speaking from Spain where he is taking his holiday, the manager urged fans to be patient, saying that while it may seem quiet, things are happening behind the scenes.
“I’ve hardly been off the phone,” he said. “My wife called it a working holiday! But rest assured, things are going on in the background back at home so that we can hit the ground running when I get back.
“I’m on the phone to agents and players, I’ve met people out here and discussed the future – it might not look like things are happening, but they are.”
One of the most anticipated announcements over the course of the summer would be the signing of Alan Smith after his six-month loan spell at the end of last season. Dons have offered him a contract, but Robinson said he has not spoken to the player – released by Newcastle United back in May – since he went holiday three weeks ago.
He said: “He’s got a place over in America where he’s relaxing at the moment, and he’s got his phone switched off. We had a good conversation before we went. We know the financial implications if he was to agree to stay here, but we’re hopeful. He really enjoyed his time here.”
And with the new season’s fixtures announced this week, Robinson is now chomping at the bit to get things under way.
“It really got the juices flowing again and I cannot wait until we kick-off,” he said. “My friend told me we’re third favourites in the league to go up this season. That’s a remarkable turnaround from two years ago when we were tipped to go down.
“I know I’ve been linked to a number of positions recently, but I’m so happy to be in this position at the moment.”
