Robbo delighted to get 2013 under way with a victory

VICTORY against Notts County on New Years Day could be Karl Robinson’s finest win as a manager, so says the man himself.

Without so many first team regulars, and losing Dean Bowditch and Angelo Balanta during the 2-1 win at Meadow Lane, Robinson is left with a threadbare squad.

But despite County’s late onslaught, Dons’ defence stood firm to keep them out, taking their first victory of 2013 in gritty style, bouncing back after two home defeats on the spin.

“It’s important when you lose games not to get despondent, said Robinson. “Each defeat hurts me, but it’s about how you respond and get over it the next day is important too. And I thought they were excellent today.

“I thought Dean Bowditch was magnificent for 45 minutes. It has been a make-shift team recently, so this goes up there with one of my best wins as a manager. With everything that is going on this is a tremendous learning curve and a testing time. We are very patched up at the moment.

“Ryan Harley looks like he’s made to wear our kit – I’ve been telling him that for two-and-a-half years! Thankfully, he’s finally listened to me!

“This is a very good Notts County side. You don’t get an easy win here. It was a very strong and gritty performance in the second half.

“This has been a disastrous Christmas period. As it is, we’ve come out of it with only three points from nine, but we have a few days now to prepare ourselves for a nice FA Cup tie.”
