Squad 'warm up' before trip to Portugal

Dons squad get back to pre-season training

While it may be all change off the field, Dons' players returned from their summer break for the first day of the dreaded pre-season training on Tuesday.

Despite the departure of Roberto Di Matteo, it was business as usual for the first team squad as they were all put through their paces for the first time since the play-off semi final defeat to Scunthorpe United back in May.

The day started with some individual player tests at stadium:mk to see if people had kept trim during the close season!

Then players then arrived at a sweltering Woughton-on-the-Green where groups of four players completed 10 minute runs timed by the sports science team.

Summer signings David McCracken, Jabo Ibehre and Dan Woodards were all on show for the first time since joining the club while a few unknown trialists were also present and looking stand out.

The real hard work then begins on Thursday when the squad head to Portugal for their annual pre-season training camp where they will 'enjoy' 10 days of tough training.

It is expected academy manager Mike Dove and coach Paul Heald will take charge of the training along with members of the sports science team.

The first pre-season game of the season will then take place on Saturday July 18 away at Windsor and Eton.

That will be followed up by a short trip to Nene Park on Saturday July 25 where Dons will take on the Blue Square Premier Division's Rushden and Diamonds.

Premier League Wolves then come to stadium:mk on Tuesday July 28 before the new League One campaign starts a week and a half later at home to Hartlepool.
