WHILE Peterborough’s attempts to sign Sam Baldock and Stephen Gleeson were the talk of the city yesterday, three other Dons players committed themselves to the club for next season.
Academy graduates Harry Milton and George Baldock – brother of Sam – have signed their first professional contracts, while veteran defender Mathias Doumbe has put pen to paper on a new two-year deal.
The 31-year-old’s previous two-year contract was nearing its conclusion, but he’s ended any speculation regarding his future by signing on until 2013.
The Frenchman racked up a highly impressive 51 appearances for Dons last season, and it was that consistency – coupled with his never-say-die attitude in the centre of defence – that saw him voted Players’ Player of the Year by his peers.
“After the season we had last year I’m really excited to play again with the team, and I’m looking forward to seeing everyone and doing a good job,” said Doumbe.
“What we did last year was really good but this year we have to do better.”
George Baldock and Milton have penned one-year contracts, with a further year’s option, and become the sixth and seventh academy graduates to progress to the first team.
Milton captained Dons’ U18 team from the heart of midfield last season while George made his senior debut away at Oldham in May. The pair are pictured above.
In other news, Peter Leven and Jabo Ibehre are fast approaching the end of their contracts and no announcement regarding their futures has yet been made. Last year’s academy graduates, Charlie Collins, Adam Chicksen and Tom Flanagan, are also yet to agree new deals.
