Karl Robinson has already made contact with potential players to build a squad for next season.

Dons’ recruitment policy has been put into question this season, after numerous failed signings culminating in their relegation from the Championship.

But while Dons still have a game remaining in the season, at home to Nottingham Forest on Saturday, Robinson has already been active in sounding out clubs and players for next season.

“We’ve already homed in on transfer targets,” he said.

“We have met with a club to talk about their players.

“I’ve spoken to another Premier League club about a player, we’re already preparing bids for players.

“All these targets are 23 and under, and that has rejuvenated me for next season.

“The players we’re looking at are exciting, I believe the fans are already excited.

“But where we are has a massive implication on what we can do moving forward.”

And given the poor signings made last summer, Robinson says the club cannot afford to make the same mistakes this time around, or risk staying in the third tier for too long again.

He said: “We’re ready to understand what has gone on. We’re over the soreness.

“We’re not going into the unknown, going into League 1. It will take some getting used to.

“But it took us seven years to get out of it, it won’t take us seven years to get out of it again.

“We can’t be at that level for seven years again.”
