Pete Winkelman has revealed the extent of his frustration that MK Dons have not yet achieved promotion to the Championship.
Speaking on the BBC’s Late Kick-Off show, the Dons chairman said the only way he was able to grow the club was to get out of League 1.
He said: “This year we’ve probably spent the most on our player budget that we have for many years. But at the end of the day that doesn’t necessarily convert into results.
“It’s been a really, really tough few weeks because we lose our best players, and we then get suspensions. And as any one will tell you, if you can’t keep the right team together – a constant team together – you’re not going to win enough games.
“I want to be promoted. It’s the one thing that has got to happen for the Milton Keynes Dons. I cannot grow the football club if I can’t get it promoted. And I am starting to get very frustrated about that.”
