Newport Pagnell Reserves boss David Ashcroft questioned the referee after his side’s 3-2 defeat to Yaxley Reserves in the Reserves Cup on Saturday.

After leading through Mambo Kouadio, Swans went 2-1 down before pulling level again through Chris Wreh.

But controversy struck when Joseph Kelly scored Yaxley’s third, despite being flagged offside by the linesman.

“I’m not one for digging out referees because without them we would not have a game,” said Ashcroft afterwards. “I don’t believe in publishing on social media either but the ref refused to talk to me after the game.

“If the referees choose to ignore the linesman, then what’s the point in having them?

“Unfortunately we were punished by his below par performance.”
