Milton Keynes City ladies are celebrating this week as they secured the Thames Valley Women’s Division One title by seeing off the challenge of nearest rivals Ascot United with a 5-2 victory.
Having had an incredible season last year, winning the Division Three title and the League Cup, the confidence in the camp was high for the new campaign, despite being promoted straight into the top division.
With the experience and guidance of manager Ronni Sunderland, the team began the season in fine style, reeling off nine straight wins before Christmas.
And the second half of the season saw much of the same with City eventually securing the championship on the final day, having lost just one game in the whole campaign.
The ladies once again had a good League Cup run as well, making it through to the final where they were narrowly beaten by Wycombe 3-2 after extra time.
In the space of two years since their formation, the team have now gained two successive league titles and earned themselves the right to advance and compete in the Southern Regional League for the 2013-14 season.
Manager Sunderland said: “It’s been a long hard season, but I’m so proud of my players.
“They have all shown huge commitment and passion, and they deserve to be called the champions.
“We are always looking to strengthen the squad and we welcome interest from any players wanting to join this successful club to push them even further up the women’s pyramid.”
