Youngsters from Shenley Brook End School got their hands on the U13 County Cup with a 4-2 win over John Hampden Grammar on Monday.
Playing in the lavish grounds of Stowe School, Shenley raced into a two goal lead with goals from Jack Woolley and Morgan Emmett.
But John Hampden were arguably the better of the two sides, passing well and keeping possession, but never really threatening the Shenley goal. Shenley took their lead in with them at the break, but didn’t waste much time in adding to their tally in the second period.
Luke Archell scored a superb header to put SBE three goals to the good.
Their final goal was the pick of the bunch but goal-scorer Mattie Richardson paid the price.
Having battled through the John Hampden defence and brilliantly rounded the keeper to score Shenley’s fourth, he was clattered by the recovering stopper and had to be carried from the field.
As SBE made their changes, John Hampden sensed there was still a late chance to get back in the game.
But their two late goals were mere consolation as Shenley got their hands on the trophy come full time.
